Summer in Alice Springs and Palmerston – School holiday program

Territory Families

With $250,000 in Youth Innovation Grants awarded to non-government organisations in both Palmerston and Alice Springs, the summer school holiday program will kick off on Friday 15 December as schools head into a six week break.

The majority of the holiday program is aimed at 10-17 year olds with an emphasis on providing engagement for ‘at risk’ youth.

Key agencies across the NT Government have been working with providers in the non-government youth sector to develop co-ordinated programs to positively engage young people in a way that is conducive to enhancing community safety over the holidays.

The NT Government has also invested in transport options to ensure young people get home at the end of some of the activities available in both Alice Springs and Palmerston.

This will be in addition to the introduction of increased security measures and appropriate support to those assessed as being ‘at risk’ and requiring therapeutic or more structured support.

The Alice Springs calendar offers a broad range of events both in town and on community, from sporting activities to workshops in drumming, music, filming and digital technology.

The Palmerston calendar also includes a spate of new and exciting events, including sporting and fitness activities, a new music event entitled Palmerston Beats, cultural activities, a Youth Ninja Warrior Challenge and art workshops.

Both calendars can be found online at youth.nt.gov.au/calendar
