The NT Government is helping Territorians ensure their vehicles are safe and ready to travel these holidays, with a free community event on Saturday 9 December as part of the annual Check. Plan. Go. Campaign.
This annual event, held at the Bagot Road Bunnings in Darwin, promotes safe travel in the Territory in partnership with the Automobile Association of the NT (AANT) and Kidsafe NT.
AANT approved mechanics will be conducting free vehicle health checks and staff from KidsafeNT will be checking child car seat fitment, from 9am to 1pm. All vehicles checked will receive a free set of wiper blades (while stocks last).
Simon Saunders, Executive Director of Transport Safety and Services, is encouraging Territorians to attend and ensure they are travelling in safe and roadworthy vehicles.
“Around this time of year many Territorians travel long distances by car to visit friends and family throughout the Territory and the rest of Australia,” said Simon.
“Driving in the NT during the wet season requires extreme care as conditions can change rapidly and increase the risk of a crash.”
“Plan for a safe journey - visit roadreport.nt.gov.au to check on the road conditions and plan a trip with realistic travel times, emergencies and regular breaks,” said Simon.
