The Draft Joint Management Plans for Watarrka National Park and Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park are now open for public comment.

Department of Tourism and Culture, Director of Central Australian Parks, Chris Day, said this is an opportunity for the community to have their say on the future management of these Parks.

“Promoting tourism by investing in our world class parks will create jobs, enhance our lifestyles and foster more vibrant communities,” Mr Day said.

“The Plans set out management priorities in line with each Parks’ significant cultural values, their status as international tourist destinations and places that are vital for conservation of biodiversity.”

“Together the Joint Management Partners have developed Joint Management Plans for Watarrka and Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Parks over the past 10 years through extensive consultation and collaboration.

“The Traditional Owners and Parks and Wildlife will work together to combine traditional and scientific knowledge to manage each Park.

“I urge Territorians to have a read of the Draft Plans and have their say on the future management of Watarrka and Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Parks.”
