Last night, the national spotlight was cast on Palmerston and a hugely successful basketball program for young people.

The Palmerston and Regional Basketball Association (PaRBA) was awarded the crown of Good Sport Club of the Year at a special event in Melbourne at both the national and Northern Territory levels. Good Sports is an arm of the National Alcohol and Drug Foundation and aims to help sporting clubs provide a safe and inclusive environment.

PaRBA was selected as the Club of the Year due to its efforts to provide inclusive programs that meet the needs of the Palmerston community. Among the programs offered by PaRBA are the highly successful Streetball and Youth Drop-in Sports programs, which are funded by Territory Families attract up to 100 young people to each event.

Territory Families CEO Ken Davies says he is delighted to see this community-based club achieve national recognition for their innovative youth program.

“Territory Families is committed to providing support for grass roots community organisations to provide worthwhile, safe and engaging activities for young people, particularly after-hours and during school holidays.

“PaRBA’s Streetball and Youth Drop-in Sports programs in Palmerston are enormously popular with local young people and offer family-friendly environments where everyone feels welcome.

“I congratulate PaRBA’s program manager, Rachel Fosdick and her team, for their marvellous win and Territory Families looks forward to continuing to support them with their ongoing youth activities and sporting programs for the upcoming school holidays,” Ken Davies said.

PaRBA is supported to deliver a range of youth sporting activities in Palmerston, including a daily drop-in sports program five days a week, every week of the year, and two more weeks of Streetball to be held during the Christmas holidays.
