The Northern Territory Planning Commission (NTPC) has today commenced community consultation on a Land Use Plan for Tennant Creek with the release of a Discussion Paper which has been prepared by FYFE P/L.
Dr David Ritchie, Chairman of the NTPC, said the Tennant Creek and Barkly Region is central to many of the Territory’s mineral deposits, and the town is strategically positioned to provide expansion for an important range of services to support boarder regional development.
The “Discussion Paper will act as a basis for ongoing community consultation and as a prelude to the preparation of a Land Use Plan,” said Dr Ritchie.
The NTPC’s primary role is to prepare integrated strategic plans in consultation with the community and the Tennant Creek Land Use Plan will be developed with input from key stakeholders and the general public, for inclusion into the NT Planning Scheme as a Policy Document.
“Stage 1 of the Tennant Creek Land Use Plan process is an opportunity for the community to participate in the planning process by contributing their thoughts and ideas about the future of the area. Feedback received during this stage will help the Commission to develop a Land Use Plan to take back to the community in the New Year” said Dr Ritchie.
The Discussion Paper, as well as further information on the public information session are available on the Commission’s website www.planningcommission.nt.gov.au. Submission can be made online, via post or in person until Friday 8 December 2017.
