Northern Territory Major Events Company

After a record number of entries at Red CentreNATS 03, organisers have opened the early bird registrations for Red CentreNATS 04 which will again take place in Alice Springs over Father’s Day weekend, 31st August – 2nd September 2018.

Organisers have maintained early bird registration prices at just $50 with the website containing all the information and details for those interested to sign up early and start planning their experience to the Ultimate Festival of Wheels in the Red Centre.

For entrants and those interested in finding out more about the event, a Red CentreNATS TV special will air on 7Mate today, Saturday 14 October 1.30pm NT time (12pm AEDT).

“It’s fair to say the team is excited about having the Red CentreNATS special go to air this weekend. The broadcast captures all the great people and cars who came to Alice on the Father’s Day weekend this year.

“We’re also really happy to be opening to entrants for Red CentreNATS 2018, and can’t wait to see car enthusiasts from around Australia next year,” said Summernats co-owner Andy Lopez.

The TV Special will showcase the various program of events and highlights from across the 2017 event weekend which include Australia’s largest Street Parade - the rare opportunity for owners to drive their much loved vehicles on the open road in Alice Springs.

Also showcased in the TV special  will be the Road to the Grand Champion which was won by entrant Layton Crambrook from Sydney, NSW who took home the $5,000 top prize of Red CentreNATS Grand Champion in his purple and white 1972 Holden HQ Monaro Coupe number plated “Humble”, a project car in honour of his late father.

The Grand Champion was decided across various events, and cars were judged on the looks, engineering, style and driveability. Out of the 893 entrants, Crambrook came out on top with a high standard displayed across Show N Shine, Grass Driving, Drag Racing, Motorkhana and also winning the People’s Choice Award.

Local Peter Hondow from Alice Springs will also feature as he went back-to-back as the Top Red Centre Entrant in his Ford Tudor having won the prize in 2016 with a Red 1933 Ford 3 Window Coup.

Red CentreNATS in 2017 saw over 14,000 patrons attend the competition venues over the course of the event, including a 20% increase in entrants with more than 57% travelling from outside Alice Springs.

Safety for both entrants and patrons is always a priority for event organisers, and with the investigation into the incident on the Sunday of the event ongoing, the Northern Territory Major Events Company is working cooperatively with authorities and will ensure that all recommendations are considered for Red CentreNATS 2018 as well as future major events.

Northern Territory Major Events Company has supported the injured victims and their families from the Red CentreNATS incident at Alice Springs Inland Dragway.
