They are the kids thriving in the care of a loving family, the siblings who go the extra mile to make them feel welcome in their home, and the support workers who go above and beyond when doing their job.
The 2017 Territory Families Foster and Kinship Carer Awards are about celebrating and recognising the enormous contribution that foster and kinship carers, and those around them, make to the lives of vulnerable children in every community across the Territory.
The Awards have been expanded this year to include three new categories that recognise the contributions made by a carer’s own children as well as Territory Families staff who provide the essential external support that both the carers and the children need.
Territory Families Chief Executive, Ken Davies, says children and their families are at the centre of all our work as an agency.
“The Foster and Kinship Carer Excellence Awards are a fantastic opportunity to ‘shine a spotlight’ on the individuals that make such a positive contribution to our foster and kinship community.
“These people include the foster and kinship carers, their families, social workers and others who work tirelessly to care for and support young Territorians, so they can reach their full potential.
“This year we have expanded the Awards to celebrate more people involved in fulfilling the important role of supporting families and strengthening communities.”
