Monkey
Baa Theatre Company return to Alice Springs with Diary of a Wombat, a new Australian play based on the multi-award
winning picture book by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley.
“We
are thrilled to present to Alice Springs families the world premiere tour of Diary of a Wombat in a live show of
stunning puppetry and live music,” Director of the Araluen Cultural Precinct,
Dr Mark Crees said.
“Millions
of young people around the world have adored the book, and now this iconic work
has been adapted for the stage by Monkey Baa’s Creative Directorate Eva Di
Cesare, Sandra Eldridge and Tim McGarry.”
Audiences
will meet Mothball, the naughtiest wombat in Australia. Bored with her daily
routine, Mothball goes in search of shelter and food, creating chaos in the
lives of the humans around her.
“Diary of a Wombat is perfect for
audiences aged three years and over - as well as their grownups – who will love
Mothball as she goes after doormats, bins and washing lines,” Dr Crees said.
“The
beautiful Mothball puppet will lead audiences through her packed schedule of
scratching, sleeping and eating, and will show that with a bit of persistence
humans are quite easily trained!”
Eva
Di Cesare, the production’s director explained that “Diary of a Wombat is such an enduring childhood classic that
audiences are going to fall in love with Mothball all over again when she
burrows her way on to our stage.”
Jackie
French, author of Diary of a Wombat
said "What Monkey Baa has done is extraordinary. In fact, what they have
done is impossible, but Monkey Baa has always done the impossible."
