The
Department of Tourism and Culture is calling for nominations for Advisory Committee
positions for the Alice Springs Masters Games 2018 (ASMG).
The
call for expressions of interest seeks to fill a number of positions on the
committee who will function in an advisory role to the Department of Tourism
and Culture – Sport and Recreation, as well as the Minister for Tourism and
Culture Lauren Moss, for the delivery of the ASMG.
Department
of Tourism and Culture, Sport and Recreation Executive Director Phillip Leslie said
the ASMG is known as ‘the friendly games’, and this expression of interest is a
great opportunity to form part of the games’ important Advisory Committee.
“We’re
looking for talented Alice Springs locals to help shape the 2018 ASMG. The
committee comprises six members from the Alice Springs community, who will act
as important representatives, providing counsel both to the community and the
department, regarding the ASMG.
Nominations
will be primarily assessed on the applicant’s link to the community, skills
they would bring to the Advisory Committee, and previous experience with the
Alice Springs Masters Games,” Mr Leslie said.
The
Advisory Committee meets on a monthly basis in the lead up to the Games, which
take place from 13-20 October 2018.
The
ASMG are known as the friendly games, and have been running in Alice since
1986. They are the longest-running Masters Games in the world.
Approximately
4000 competitors are expected to attend the Games in 2018.
More
than 30 sports are on offer, including three new sports for 2018 - boxing,
model aircraft flying and functional fitness.
