Australian Red Cross has partnered with Territory Families to provide rural residents with pop-up welfare recovery centres in two Top End locations tomorrow.

Australian Red Cross (NT) Emergency Services Coordinator, Alexandra Eaves, said the recovery centres would be provided at Berry Springs Recreation Reserve and Corroboree Park Tavern from 10am to midday for any rural residents impacted by recent bushfires.

Ms Eaves said that if required, the recovery centres would reopen from 1pm-3pm tomorrow in the same locations.

“These recovery centres will be an avenue for those affected by the fires, or who have loved ones, friends or neighbours impacted by the fires to seek some assistance, information or reassurance from our trained emergency volunteers," Ms Eaves said.

“We will also have good resources on preparing for emergencies, including how to make a plan and where to go for the most up-to-date information.

“In addition to our pop-up recovery centres, Red Cross volunteers will also be going door-to-door to check in on people in the area of the recent bushfires around Darwin River and Marrakai.

“The aim is to offer a friendly face and a listening ear to anyone in need and to check in on people who might need additional support or resources to get back on their feet.”

The teams will be in the Marrakai area around Madigan Road and in the Berry Springs area on Cox Peninsula Road.

“We also have a special hotline setup for those impacted by the fires. We urge anyone who needs support, or knows of someone who needs support, to contact our Bushfires Assistance Hotline on 1800 882 641,” Ms Eaves said.

Bushfires NT executive director Collene Bremner thanked Australian Red Cross and Territory Families for providing rural residents with this vital support, as well as Bushfires NT volunteers who have battled multiple fires across many locations in recent months.

“Bushfires volunteers have all shown tremendous leadership, perseverance and skill in preventing the loss of homes and, more importantly, lives,” Ms Bremner said.

“Most fires around this time of year are deliberately lit, despite fire bans, and we urge the public to report acts of arson or other suspicious activity around their community by calling Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
