School Groups encouraged to Explore the Territory’s history at Northern Territory Library

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

The Northern Territory Library has launched a new curriculum based program, Explorers of the Territory, where students will explore a wide range of collections to learn about the stories and characters of early Territory life and exploration.

The new program takes students on an interactive journey, with students learning about Aboriginal history through to European exploration.

Northern Territory Library Acting Director Emma Darby said she was thrilled to expand their schools program.

“The Northern Territory Library provides a fantastic environment to learn, and students are invited to travel back in time to a period of exploration, adventure and adversity,” Ms Darby said.

“Students aged primary through to secondary school can enjoy a tailored program, taking full advantage of the NT Library’s extensive collection of historical imagery and heritage maps.

Explorers of the Territory will shine a spotlight on a significant and important part of the Territory’s history.”

The new program is in addition to the existing education activities available at the Northern Territory Library, which includes learning about the Bombing of Darwin, research skills and general library orientation.

The Northern Territory Library’s school programs are available during school hours and schools are encouraged to contact the library to enquire how each tour can be tailored to their school curriculum.
