Doctors stood down over allegations of sexual assault

Department of Health

Royal Darwin Hospital has stood down two doctors while we investigate allegations of sexual assault.

We do not tolerate inappropriate behaviours of any kind and are taking this matter very seriously. We have also reported the matter to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

We have acted quickly and are working closely with Flinders University to ensure student safety and wellbeing is maintained. We have also suspended student placements in the division involved while the investigation occurs. Student placements are critical to ensuring new doctors have the skills they need to work in their chosen field so we have made other arrangements to supervise students on placement and enable that learning to continue.

Any further action against the doctors will be determined based on the outcome of the investigation. To ensure this is a fair and just investigation, we will not provide any further details.

The safety and wellbeing of our patients and staff, including students, is of the highest priority and you can be assured we will continue to take the necessary action to ensure that is maintained.

We encourage anyone who feels they have been the victim of inappropriate behaviour to report their concerns to senior staff, their teachers, the Director of Medical Services, executives or police so we can take action to ensure all patients, staff and students, are safe in our facilities.
