TQ Appointed Tourism NT General Manager of Marketing

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Former Tourism NT head of domestic marketing, Tony Quarmby has been appointed as the new General Manager of Marketing for the Territory’s tourism agency.

Mr Quarmby will return to the Northern Territory from Tasmania where he has been the Director of Consumer Marketing for Tourism Tasmania for the past 18 months.

Prior to that Mr Quarmby lived in Alice Springs heading up Tourism NT’s domestic marketing team for 3 years where he was responsible for implementing the award-winning Do the NT and It’s About Time tourism campaigns.

Department of Tourism and Culture Acting CEO Andrew Hopper said he was delighted to welcome Mr Quarmby back into the Tourism NT family.

“We are thrilled Tony Quarmby will be returning to the Northern Territory to take up the General Manager of Marketing for Tourism NT,” he said.

“Tony will play a key role within the department leading our domestic and international tourism marketing activities and strategies, which includes all digital marketing, advertising campaigns and public relations activities.

“Having worked closely with local tourism operators for three years prior to his shift to Tasmania, I’m sure Tony will be a familiar face to many and I have no doubt he will hit the ground running,” Mr Hopper said.

Mr Quarmby said he was looking forward to moving back to the Northern Territory.

“My passion and connection to the Territory has never left me so it will be great to return having enjoyed my time in the southern climes.

“I look forward to promoting some of the Government’s exciting new initiatives like the $100 million investment into an Indigenous Arts Trail across the Territory, a National Indigenous Art Gallery in Alice Springs, Indigenous Cultural Centre in Alice Springs and the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory planned for Darwin, just to name a few.

“Our job will be to ensure the world knows about these new facilities and that the Northern Territory is the premier place to visit for unique art and cultural experiences,” Mr Quarmby said.

Mr Quarmby will commence as the General Manager of Marketing of Tourism NT in Darwin from 16th October.

Mr Hopper also wished to acknowledge and pay tribute to Ms Angela Collard, Executive Director of Tourism NT, who will be departing the NT public service on 31 August, following more than 30 years of service.

“Angela has been a great asset for the Northern Territory and a much-loved member of Tourism NT for many years and we are extremely sad to lose her wealth of knowledge and expertise,” said Mr Hopper.

“However, we understand the joys that come with spending more time with family and wish Angela all the best for the future.”

Mr Hopper will formally take-on responsibility for the Tourism portfolio in his capacity as Department of Tourism and Culture Deputy CEO effective 1 September.
