Alice
Springs audiences are in for a treat when Sydney Dance Company returns to the
Araluen Arts Centre on Wednesday 23 August for their national tour, Frame of Mind.
“We
are excited to have Sydney Dance Company, Australia’s leading contemporary
dance company, return to Alice Springs on their 2017 Australian tour,” Director
of the Araluen Cultural Precinct, Dr Mark Crees said.
“Frame of Mind is a wildly powerful
double bill featuring the smash-hit Wildebeest
by Australia’s own Gabrielle Nankivell and the multi award-winning Frame of Mind from Rafael Bonachela.
“It’s
wonderful to have such critically-acclaimed work travel to Alice Springs – Frame of Mind won four Helpmann Awards
in 2015 including Best Choreography and Best Dance Work, while Wildebeest won two Helpmann Awards this
year including Best Choreography.”
Having
premiered as part of Sydney Dance Company’s inaugural New Breed season,
choreographic prodigy Gabrielle Nankivell’s eloquent Wildebeest showcases the power of dancers as individuals and strength
en masse. Moody and animalistic, it’s backed by a stormy and industrial score
by Luke Smiles.
Bonachela’s
Frame of Mind features a dramatic
contemporary-classical soundtrack by Bryce Dessner (from the band The
National), recorded by San Francisco’s virtuosic Kronos Quartet.
“Sydney
Dance Company will also engage with the local dance community in the lead up to
their performance, by presenting an onstage masterclass for advanced dancers,”
Dr Crees said.
“The
workshop will be taught by some of Sydney Dance Company’s Teaching Artists and
will feature a technique class before the participants learn some of the
choreography from Wildebeest.”
Sydney
Dance Company’s Frame of Mind will be
live onstage at the Araluen Arts Centre on Wednesday 23 August at 8.00pm.
Ticket
prices are $59.00 for adults, $55.00 for concession and $52.00 for Araluen Arts
Centre Members.
Tickets
