Alice Springs Desert Park launches new Living Desert Experience

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Alice Springs Desert Park (ASDP) is inviting guests to share the knowledge, walk the land, and unlock the mystery of the desert with the Park’s new Living Desert Experience – daily from 7:30am-9:30am.

The new Living Desert Experience allows travellers on a tight schedule to immerse themselves in the surrounds and feel the spirit of the country, as they explore the living desert in a short two-hour informative and interactive guided tour.

Visitors experience a breakfast around a campfire with billy tea, fresh fruit, and damper while learning and exploring the secrets of the living deserts. There is also the possibility of a chance wildlife encounter while admiring the Park’s majestic natural environment.

The Living Desert Experience is timed perfectly for tourists to take advantage of the very best of the ASDP’s offerings before daily flight departures to capital cities.

ASDP Director Paul AhChee Ngala said the Living Desert Experience is a short and informative experience celebrating the desert and how it has connected and supported different life for thousands of years.

“Our new Living Desert Experience is what we believe is the life within the living deserts”.

The desert is blessed with ancient creek and river systems winding through a prehistoric set of ranges with many different and dynamic habitats. These habitats have supported life for tens of thousands of years and all desert life has one common denominator - its connection to the land itself. All life in the food chain from the base to top has adapted to the way the land has changed over time.

“The silence, serenity and awareness of the senses come to the fore as visitors experience the natural environment of the Alice Springs Desert Park,” said Mr AhChee.

Adults are $150 and Children (5-15 years) are $66, and include transfers.  Bookings are essential and close 12pm the day prior.

Minimum numbers and other conditions apply. Visitors are encouraged to bring walking shoes, hat and drinking water.
