The Johnny Cash Story comes to the Araluen Arts Centre

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

The Araluen Arts Centre is excited to present Cash: The Legend, a musical tribute to country superstar Johnny Cash.

“Johnny Cash was a music legend for over half a century with an instantly recognisable rich voice and we are thrilled to present this tribute to the Alice Springs community,” Director of the Araluen Cultural Precinct, Dr Mark Crees said.

The show looks back on Cash’s life – from his humble beginnings on a poor cotton farm to taking the country music scene by storm – and features his greatest hits and signature tunes.

“Not only die-hard Cash fans but many others will be familiar with the successful 2005 biopic starring Joaquin Phoenix that explored elements of Cash’s story,” Dr Crees said.

Cash: The Legend looks further at the relationship and interaction between Cash and the love of his life, June Carter.”

The unique baritone sound of Johnny Cash is performed by Barry Ferrier, an artist who has worked as a band leader and guitarist for Eartha Kitt and appeared on the ABC’s Countdown program.

Ferrier is backed by a live band and by Northern Territory born Ilona Harker, who plays his first wife Vivian, his second wife June Carter and his mother.

“This production is a toe-tapping, side slapping mix of great songs and stories and will be a fabulous night of entertainment for any American music fan,” added Dr Crees.

Cash: The Legend
will be live onstage at the Araluen Arts Centre on Saturday 28 July at 8pm.

Ticket prices are $55.00 for adults, $52.00 for concession and $50.00 for Araluen Arts Centre Members.  Groups of ten people or more can also purchase tickets for $50.00.
