Graduate nurses and midwives still have a few days to apply for the Top End Health Service’s (TEHS) Graduate Nursing and Midwifery Program, providing graduates with an opportunity to put their theory into practice across TEHS.
The program has been running since 2002 and provides graduates with an exciting range of experience and opportunities to assist them as they develop their nursing and midwifery careers.
Dr. Carole Maddison, Director of Nursing & Midwifery, Clinical Learning, Education and Research Service (CLEaRS) said TEHS’s program offered graduates with a unique learning environment and access to various areas to develop their skills, such as intensive care, operating theatres, mental health, antenatal and postnatal and domiciliary care.
“We are an excellent option for nurses and midwives who want to kick-start their career in an exciting and unique environment,” she said.
“Rare medical conditions that present in the Territory combined with the uniqueness of remote health care settings provide graduates with exciting and challenging career opportunities.
“Graduates are also provided with excellent support from clinical educators, experienced nurses and midwives, and clinical coaches, assisting them as they transition to practicing nurses and midwives.
“Participants will also be offered career pathways via combined post graduate education and employment opportunities after completion. The program has had an excellent average retention rate in the Top End Health workforce of 83% over the past two years.”
The Graduate Nursing and Midwifery Program consists of two six month rotations within the health service, including placements at Royal Darwin Hospital on the medical, surgical and specialty wards; community placements at a local community clinic or the possibility of a rotation in a regional hospital like Gove or Katherine.
