Ludmilla Primary School has been providing quality education to Darwin students since 1967 and to celebrate, a 50th birthday celebration was held at the school today.
Vicki Baylis, Chief Executive of Department of Education visited the iconic school today to celebrate the milestone with past and present students, families and educators.
“Ludmilla Primary School is a school etched in the history books of Darwin, having provided education to children in Darwin for fifty years,” Ms Baylis said.
“Many long-term Territorians would have memories of Ludmilla Primary School; it survived Cyclone Tracy and was used as a major shelter for Darwin residents in the aftermath.
“The school will be revitalised with a $6 million refurbishment of the existing two story building, providing students with contemporary learning environments.”
Principal of Ludmilla Primary School, Carol Putica said that the school has always had community at the heart of it.
“We are a school that has high academic standards and achievements that also promotes the development of our children by connecting positively with the community,” Ms Putica said.
“The school has an extensive suite of specialised programs, including our STEAM program which caters for every type of learner - from birth right through to Year 6.
“We have a history of high quality, specialist teachers creating flexible programs that support every child in our school – whether it be in Music, Art, Science, Languages or Digital Technology.
“At Ludmilla Primary, we are really proud of our cultural diversity – it brings such richness to the school which the children respond to.
“We have a sense of optimism and are making sure we are preparing every Ludmilla Primary School student for the future.”
Ludmilla Early Education Precinct was established in 2017 which extends the school’s scope to include supporting learners from birth. The school focuses on the families and their children giving them the best start in life and includes a successful Families as First Teachers program.
