WADHAM LAGOON FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECT

Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics

A contract has been awarded to Territory company Sitzler Pty Ltd for flood mitigation works in Howard Springs.

The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL) is upgrading trunk drainage along Whitewood Road to alleviate localised flooding in the Wadham Lagoon area.

Work is planned to take place in three stages, with the first package of works to install new culverts under Whitewood Road, commencing this month.

Stage 2 and Stage 3 will relocate underground Telstra communications and water mains at road crossings, and upgrade the existing sections of the trunk drain between Whitewood Road and the Howard Springs Forestry Reserve outfall.

During Stage 1 works, Whitewood Road will need to be closed to through traffic and pedestrians for a four week construction period. Access will be open to all private properties and businesses on Whitewood Road on either side of the construction works between Stow Road and Hamilton Road, including Big 4 Howard Springs Caravan Park, BP Howard Springs, Howard Springs Tavern and Howard Springs Shopping Centre. Variable message boards will be in place to advice of changed traffic conditions.

To minimise impact on school traffic, the road closure will take place during the mid-year school holidays from 24 June 2017 to 23 July 2017.

A detour will be in place during the four week closure period via Madsen Road.

Two bus stops on Whitewood Road will be relocated to the nearest location on the detour route.
