Do you want to be a junior ranger?

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

The Alice Springs Junior Ranger Program is now open for enrolments!

This hands-on environmental education program gets Territory kids out and about exploring their fantastic backyard; tracking, hiking and spotlighting their way on many adventures while having fun and making new friends.

Parks and Wildlife Community Engagement Manager Emily Findlay said the Junior Ranger Program provides children the chance to get up close to nature and learn about our special central Australian environment and how it works.

“Being a Junior Ranger is great fun and a fantastic way for kids and their families to understand and love the natural environment,” Ms Findlay said.

“Learning about the environment gives children hands-on experiences that they can take with them and use throughout their lives.

“Being comfortable in the natural world encourages us to have confidence in our abilities and to go on and explore the wonders around us.

“It’s through being a Junior Ranger that our Territory kids can gain practical experiences that can lead to a lifelong interest in the natural world.

“Now in its 26th year, the Junior Ranger Program is more popular than ever and continues to be offered free to local kids.”

Through the program the children visit different Parks and Reserves allowing them to contribute to our very special Territory environment while having fun and making new friends outside in the bush.

While the Darwin and Katherine programs are already in full swing, the Alice Springs program is NOW OPEN!

Junior Rangers are aged between 9 and 12 years of age and need to be able to commit to between ten and fifteen events over a ten week program that operates across July, August and September (Term 3) in Alice Springs.

There will be two Junior Ranger groups in Alice Springs, with a total of thirty places being offered and the program fills fast, so make sure you contact us as soon as you can.
