The Araluen Arts Centre is pleased to partner with choreographers Frankie Snowdon and Madeleine Krenek to present their first work made in Alice Springs - The Perception Experiment.

“We are thrilled to present the premiere of The Perception Experiment at the Araluen Arts Centre,” Director of the Araluen Cultural Precinct, Dr Mark Crees said.

“This project will bring seven Northern Territory artists together with three interstate artists, to present a new experimental professional dance work to be created in Central Australia, and the first performance work to be presented in the Araluen Galleries.”

The Perception Experiment will explore time and space through an offering of live dance performance, sound and sculptural installation.

Choreographer Frankie Snowdon explained “The Perception Experiment uses provocative sensorial immersion to examine our experience of the physical world, blur its edges and offer an alternate view of how we might navigate through it.”

Dr Crees added “We are excited that The Perception Experiment will have its first public viewings in Alice Springs, and that Araluen Arts Centre can facilitate such a bold new work in a different space for our audience to enjoy.”

Local dancer Frankie Snowdon and New Zealand born Madeleine Krenek both studied at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, and have collaborated and performed with a number of national dance companies such as Chunky Move and Lucy Guerin Inc.

Frankie and Madeleine collaborated on 2ndToe Dance Collective as artistic leaders to provide emerging professional artists the opportunity to make boundary pushing dance work.

2ndToe has been instrumental in Alice Springs in recent years, providing dance training to school students and providing them the opportunity to perform in the Alice Can Dance initiative.

The Perception Experiment will be presented live in the Araluen Arts Centre Galleries on Thursday 25 May, Friday 26 May and Saturday 27 May at 7pm, with a matinee on Friday 26 May at 1pm.

The general public are invited to an open panel discussion on performance practice with the choreographers and performers after the evening performance on Friday 26 May.
