Emerging Territory writers, directors and producers will undertake a three-day intensive screen development workshop in Alice Springs as part of Screen Territory’s Realisator 2017 program.

Department of Tourism and Culture CEO Alastair Shields said five Territory filmmakers have been selected to take part in the three day workshop to be held in Alice Springs this week from 9 – 11 May 2017.

“The Realisator program is a Screen Territory initiative unique to the Territory, with more than 30 filmmakers undertaking the program since it was offered in 2010.

“The emerging filmmakers receive intensive master classes to develop their documentary and factual program ideas with the help of experienced filmmaker mentors.

“Following the intensive master classes, participants then have the opportunity to pitch to the marketplace and potential broadcasters including ABC, SBS and NITV with three participants to receive grant funding to develop their projects with their mentor,” he said.

The five successful participants in 2017 include Mr Samuel Paynter and Mr Leslie Simpson from Central Australia and Ms Helen Browning, Mr Daniel Collins and Ms Leane Dabitz from the Top End.

Realisator 2017 mentors include:

• Director, writer and producer Rebecca Barry (I AM A GIRL, The Surgery Ship and Inspiring Teachers)

• Co-founder and Creative Director of Joined Up Films Dan Brown (Australia’s Secret Heroes and Who’s Been Sleeping In My House?); and

• Heiress Films producer Jennifer Cummins (Making Couples Happy, Life at 7 and Making Families Happy).

Previous participant in Screen Territory’s Realisator program Emma Masters along with her mentor Alison Black developed Lair of the Killer Crocs which aired in Australia and New Zealand on Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet.

Screen Territory will also host an industry gathering as part of this year’s Realisator on Wednesday 10 May followed by a presentation and pitching session on Thursday 11 May with representatives from ABC, NITV, SBS and Screen Australia attending.
