The Northern Territory Government’s latest tourism campaign is set to deliver mega exposure for the Territory using popular social media platform, Instagram.
A two-week long ‘Mega Meet’ will be held across the Territory from 9-21 May with hundreds of spectacular NT images to be shared on Instagram using the Territory’s hashtag #NTAustralia.
The event will see the Department of Tourism and Culture team up with regional tourism organisations, local tourism operators and 19 high-profile Instagrammers from around the world.
As well as Instagram, content created by the Instagrammers will be shared across other social media channels such as Facebook, YouTube and Snap Chat to create as much noise as possible about the NT.
“These social media gurus have travelled to the Northern Territory from around Australia and are some of the biggest travel photographers on Instagram at the moment with millions of followers worldwide,” said Department of Tourism and Culture CEO, Alastair Shields.
“All together the Instagrammers have a combined 4.7 million followers on social media making this our biggest event on social media ever.
“The Instagrammers will post photos and videos in real-time from their experiences in the Northern Territory using the hashtag #NTAustralia and will visit a range of local tourism attractions, tours and landmarks.
“From music festivals in Darwin to exploring ancient Indigenous rock art in Katherine, crocodile safaris in Kakadu, tasting bush tucker in Alice Springs and camel rides in Uluru, the Mega Meet will tell a global audience the Northern Territory is must-do outback adventure holiday.
“It will particularly target younger travellers who are heavy users of Instagram and inspire them follow in the footsteps of the famous Instagrammers.”
Glamour Instagram couple, Jack Morris (@doyoutravel) and Lauren Bullen (@gypsea_lust) are among the high profile Instagrammers attending the Mega Meet with the pair boasting 3.6 million followers between them alone.
But you don’t need to have thousands of followers to take part in the Mega Meet with Northern Territory locals also encouraged to get snapping.
“We want as many Territorians as possible to join the Mega Meet and become ambassadors for NT tourism. All you need to do to take part is be in the Northern Territory, own a smartphone with a Instagram account and hashtag #NTAustralia when uploading your best NT photos over the next two weeks,” said Mr Shields.
The Northern Territory Mega Meet will be held from 9-21 May and will visit Darwin, Katherine, Kakadu, Alice Springs, Kings Canyon and Uluru. Follow @AusOutbackNT and #NTAustralia on Instagram to see all the action from the Mega Meet.
The Mega Meet is part of the NT Government’s strategy to position tourism as a key economic driver for the Northern Territory, contributing $2.2 billion to the visitor economy by 2020.
