Royal Darwin Hospital’s clinical photographer Regis Martin has been named as a finalist in this year’s Head On Photo Festival, one of the biggest photography competitions in Australia.
Regis has been with the Royal Darwin Hospital for the last two years, working as the resident clinical photographer and has previously held roles as photographer at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory and at various press organisations around the world.
Outside of his role with the Territory Government Regis likes to take photographs of everyday life, with a human interest.
Regis said he was excited to make the finals as this was his second time entering the prestigious competition.
“I hadn’t entered any awards in a few years and I decided that it was time to get back to it, so I sent off three photographs for this year’s competition,” he said.
“This particular photo was taken last July at my father’s place in Lyon, France while on holiday with my family.
“It depicts my daughter jumping in my father’s swimming pool; I could nearly describe this image as a family picture.”
The Head On Photo Festival is world renowned and attracted over 43 000 entries worldwide last year. The Festival acts as a bridge between Australian and international markets, showcasing the wealth of photographic talent Australia has to offer.
The images will be presented in a public exhibition in Sydney on the 5th of May 2017 and all of the finalists’ images will appear on the Head On Photo Festival website from the 6th of May.
The images will also feature in a travelling exhibition around Australia, America, China, India, Europe and New Zealand.
