Stay just a little bit longer

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Department of Tourism and Culture has launched a media campaign to entice self-drive visitors to stay a little bit longer in the Northern Territory.

Department of Tourism and Culture Chief Executive Officer Alastair Shields said 274 000 overnight visitors from interstate and overseas self-drove within the Katherine and Barkly regions in 2016.

“Many self-drive travellers who are journeying north along Stuart Highway, are turning west at Katherine rather than continuing on to Litchfield, Kakadu and Darwin.

“We want to reverse this trend and increase the drive market visitation time in NT, by using Katherine as the hub for the Nature’s Way journey.”

The Nature’s Way themed tourist drive from Katherine to Darwin via Kakadu National Park showcases the very best of NT natural landscapes encompassing wetlands and gorges, waterfalls and waterholes.

“We’re calling on visitors to Do Nature’s Way, for a drive that showcases some of the best MUST-DOs of the Top End.

“On the way north to Katherine we encourage visitors to stop off in Tennant Creek. Tennant Creek is rich in history, culture and outdoor activities and an ideal spot to spend a day or two.

“The new Borella Exhibit is now open at Battery Hill Mining Centre in Tennant Creek. The exhibit showcases an important piece of history and is a great reason for visitors to extend their stay.” Mr Shields said.

The campaign kicked off this week and will run across print, digital and social media platforms.
