Two females on remand at Don Dale Youth Detention Centre attempted to escape from the Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

Both detainees were being moved between blocks when they ran away from Youth Justice Officers and scaled an internal fence.

The pair were apprehended between the internal fence and a larger external perimeter fence. At no stage did they escape the Centre.

The girls were back in their cells less than 15 minutes after they attempted to escape.
