The
Araluen Arts Centre will host the Melbourne Ballet Company for the first time
this month, when they present Arché,
an original ballet based on the classic Swan Lake.
“Arché is an exciting contemporary ballet
that explores and embraces much of the original narrative and classical
repertoire of Swan Lake,” Director of the Araluen Cultural Precinct, Dr Mark
Crees said.
“The
word Arché is Greek and indicates the
beginning – the principle from which all things arise – and ancient Greek
philosophers such as Thales, Anaximander and Anaximenes sought the Arché in the four Elemental essences –
water, earth, air and fire.
“Simon
Hoy, the director of the Melbourne Ballet Company, has taken inspiration from
Greek myths such as Leda and The Swan
and The Dying Swan to show the
emotion, line and silhouette of the swan within the dancers.”
Arché has been described
by DANCETRAIN magazine as “a stunning performance” that would suit all
audiences – ballet fanatic or not.
“The
Melbourne Ballet Company have a cast of wonderful dancers who have performed
with companies such as The Australian Ballet, Queensland Ballet, Sydney Dance Company
and overseas in countries such as Italy, America and New Zealand,” Dr Crees
said.
“We
are thrilled to have this critically-acclaimed and uplifting performance on the
Araluen stage.”
Arché will be live on
stage at the Araluen Arts Centre on Thursday 27 April, 8pm.
