High school students from across Darwin will be given the opportunity to experience what it is like to work in the health sector at this year’s Interactive Careers Day at Royal Darwin Hospital.

The annual event provides Year 10-12 students with practical insight into a range of health occupations, including mental health, medicine, biomedical engineering and nursing and midwifery.

Dr Carole Maddison, Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Clinical Learning, Education and Research, Top End Health Service, said the initiative aims to showcase the diverse career pathways within the Top End Health Service and encourage young people pursue a career within the health sector.

“The youth of today are our future workforce and we aim to inspire high school student through a day of interactive learning and fun,” she said.

“This year’s event will focus on simulated learning providing students with the opportunity to experience delivering a baby using our ‘Sim mum’, mix and dispense mock pharmaceutical medications and many other different hands-on activities in the health field.

“We are expecting over 80 students from schools cross the Darwin and Palmerston region.”
