Northern
Territory Library (NTL) will officially open its latest exhibition, iNsTagrammers, on 29 March, celebrating
the very best in contemporary Territory photography shared to social media by Territorians
themselves.
The
new exhibition collates more than 70 images from photographers from across the Territory,
and features stunning imagery of the landscapes, wildlife, lifestyle and
tourism experiences as well as powerful photojournalism.
Director of NTL Patrick Gregory said Territory Instagram users post some of
the most popular content in Australia, profiling distinctive Territory people, places
and stories, and iNsTagrammers helps
celebrate their work.
“The
exhibition captures our wonderful diversity and different points of view while
promoting our beautiful backyard and special way of life – culminating in a
unique exhibition of the things that unite us, and set us apart.
“The
featured photographers in the exhibition were selected for their ability to
capture incredible Territory moments that represent the diverse beauty of our
life and landscape,” said Mr Gregory.
Photography
continues to be one of the most important ways the NTL preserves the
Territory’s social and cultural life and social media is quickly becoming the
preferred way that people are sharing Territory images and stories to a global
audience.
NTL
currently has more than 100,000 historic images of the Northern Territory in
its collections and heavily encourages the work of creative through providing
access to collections, facilitating research and offering spaces to work.
iNsTagrammers: the
best in NT photography from Instagram runs from 29 March to 2 July 2017 at the Northern
Territory Library in Parliament House.
