A young detainee is back in custody this morning after escaping from Don Dale Youth Detention Centre late last night.  

The detainee was returned to Don Dale by an older family relative early this morning.

A further two young detainees also attempted to escape at the same time and were apprehended within the compound by Youth Justice Officers.

Territory Families would like to thank the Youth Justice Officers on duty last night for their prompt and professional response in containing the situation and ensuring other detainees and staff on site remained safe.

Thanks also to NT Police for their assistance during the search for the escapee.

The young detainee sustained minor injuries during his escape and received medical treatment on his return to custody.
