Grants support community groups to spread the Harmony message

Territory Families

A diverse range of colourful activities and events are being held across the Northern Territory to mark Harmony Day and celebrate our vibrant multicultural communities.

To assist with staging these events schools and community based organisations were encouraged to apply for up to $1,000 in financial assistance through the NT Government’s annual Harmony Grants program, which is managed by Territory Families’ Office of Multicultural Affairs.

Territory Families Chief Executive Ken Davies said this year 33 grant applications from across the Territory were approved for a total of $50,000 in grant funding.

“Successful grant applicants included primary and secondary schools, multicultural organisations and support for community based groups to participate in the Darwin 2017 Waterfront Harmony Soiree and the Big Day Out celebrations in Alice Springs,” Mr Davies said.

“By supporting these community-based events and activities we help strengthen communities and families by bringing people of all ages together to celebrate our different cultural traditions.

“I am delighted to see so many schools getting involved across the Territory from Palmerston Senior College who will be staging a Cross Cultural Diversity Master Chef Competition to Larapinta Primary School in Alice Springs who are holding multi-age events with parents, family members and cultural groups invited to participate,” Mr Davies said.
