It’s time to go hiking - Walk in the Park back for Katherine and Alice Springs

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

The Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory Walk in the Park program is happening again this year with events in Katherine and Alice Springs Parks and Reserves.

This popular program is free, fun and ‘first-time-hiker’ friendly and an opportunity for all those who would like to explore the incredible network of tracks and trails in the NT’s National Parks and Reserves.

Also on offer is the chance to discover amazing plants, spend time watching the birds, gaze at incredible views, all while making new friends along the way.

PWCNT Community Engagement Officer for the Katherine Region, Clare Pearce said finding your feet out on a walking track for the very first time can be a bit daunting.

“Joining a Walk in the Park gives people all the support and encouragement they need to take that first big step.”

“Taking a Walk in the Park is also a great way to de-stress from the week before, get your weekly dose of nature and reset for the week ahead, all our walks this year take in amazing views which are great photo opportunities” Ms Pearce said.

The series kicks off in April and will continue until September with walks taking in a number of different Parks and Reserves in Alice Springs and Katherine.

All participants will need to be able to walk at least three kilometres over an uneven track and carry their own water and snacks for the day.

Numbers are limited and bookings are essential.
