Top End children are encouraged to enrol for the Parks and Wildlife Commission of The Northern Territory Junior Ranger Program.

The Junior Ranger Program gets kids out exploring their big backyard, bushwalking, bug-finding, spot lighting and finding out how the world works while having fun and making new friends.   

Parks and Wildlife Community Engagement Manager Emily Findlay said that Junior Rangers have a wonderful time exploring nature while finding out more about themselves and the world around them.

“Being a Junior Ranger is great fun and a fantastic way for kids to discover more about themselves and their world while exploring the bush,” Ms Findlay said.

“Children and their families build their knowledge and skills over the program, giving them the confidence to go out and experience our amazing Parks and Reserves by themselves.

“It’s through being a Junior Ranger that our Territory kids can gain hands-on practical experiences that can lead to a lifelong interest in their natural world.

“Junior Ranger programs are delivered in Darwin and Katherine over 10 weeks in Term 2 and Alice Springs later in the year. You may find yourself investigating mini-beasts, planning a hike with friends or tracking mysterious beasts through the bush. Activities are hands-on, so expect to get dirty!

The ever popular Parks and Wildlife Junior Ranger program continues to be offered free to local kids and helps them contribute to our very special Territory environment while having fun and making new friends outside in the bush.

Mrs Findlay added “Junior Rangers are aged between 9 and 12 years of age and must be able to commit to the whole of a ten week program that operates across April, May and June in Darwin and Katherine. There will be two Junior Ranger groups in each region, and the program fills up fast. Enrolments in the program are limited to thirty places in each region so make sure you contact us as soon as you can.”

Registrations for the Darwin and Katherine programs are NOW OPEN, for those in Alice Springs; look out for registrations opening later in the year.
