Is your organisation interested in supporting and celebrating seniors in your community?

The Northern Territory Government offers grants of up to $2000 to community organisations to support the delivery of events and activities as part of Seniors Month in August.

The Territory Families Office of Senior Territorians manages the Seniors Month Grant program and grant applications are now open for this year’s Seniors Month.

Territory Families Chief Executive Officer Mr Ken Davies said senior Territorians are valued members of our community.

“The Seniors Month Grants program supports community based organisations to stage events across the Territory during August that celebrate our seniors and acknowledge the many valuable contributions they have make and continue to make to the Territory,” Ken Davies said.

“We encourage relevant organisations big and small to apply for these grants, especially those in regional and remote areas as well as the main centres, so that Seniors Month can be celebrated Territory wide.”

Grant applications can include activities and events that:

• encourage seniors to get physical with activities such as aerobics, tai chi, yoga, gym classes, laughing sessions or ask a celebrity to lead a walk to a popular local destination

• provide opportunities for seniors to learn something new with classes in subjects like computing, woodwork, swimming, dancing and life saving

• promote inter-generational activities such as partnering with primary or high school students or a youth group for shared activities such as art shows, visits to museums, oral history sessions and classroom assistance or mentoring

• offer information sessions, lectures, expos or open days on topics such as financial planning, health and wellbeing or opportunities to meet special guest or hear from experts.

Other activities could include reading groups, games mornings, discovering family history, scrap-booking, craft, poetry, mystery tours, exhibitions, gardening, fashion parades, cooking, local history, tea dances, picnics, workshops and singing.

Applications close Friday 7 April 2017.
