The Department of Housing and Community Development has approved a one month extension to 24 March 2017 for completion of the Town Camp Review.
The tender for the review into the Northern Territory’s 43 town camps was awarded to Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu on 10 October 2016 to be completed by 31 January 2017.
Following delays in gaining access to Alice Springs town camps, the completion date for the Town Camp Review was extended to 24 February 2017.
The stakeholder working group has identified additional data requirements and further work will be undertaken to gather the required information.
The review is technically complex and is the most comprehensive review of town camps undertaken by government to date. This one month extension is necessary to ensure that a comprehensive report will be delivered.
The review incorporates the aspirations of town camp residents to develop a community vision for change, to explore opportunities to improve efficiencies and to remove hurdles for growth and development. It is important that both the technical aspects and the community input is reflected accurately in the report.
The department will not incur any additional costs as a result of the one month extension.
