Time
is running out for Northern Territory artists to enter this year’s Portrait of
a Senior Territorian Art Award.
The
Araluen Arts Centre has extended this year’s deadline by one week, giving
entrants until close of business Friday 10 March to get their entries in.
The
Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award celebrates the contributions made by
Senior Territorians to the community, as well as excellence by Territory
artists.
“We
are thrilled to have had some fantastic works come in for this year’s Portrait
of a Senior Territorian by artists from across the NT,” Director of the Araluen
Cultural Precinct, Dr Mark Crees said.
“These
portraits highlight the work of Territorians who have led remarkable lives and
supported the growth and development of the Territory.”
The
2017 Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award will open for the first time at
the Araluen Arts Centre in Alice Springs on Friday 7 April.
It
will also tour to Darwin later in 2017, to ensure that Territorians from across
the Territory are given the privilege of seeing the artworks.
“We
want to remind all artists that they must submit by Friday 10 March if they
wish to be included in this year’s Art Award and Exhibition and that all
portraits will exhibit in both Alice Springs and Darwin,” Dr Crees said.
“Artists
interested in participating can find all the information about the Art Award,
as well as the entry form at http://araluenartscentre.nt.gov.au/whats_on/poast
“There
is a significant cash prize of $7000 for the winner of this award with generous
prizes for second, third and the People's Choice Prize.”
The
Portrait of a Senior Territorian award was won in 2015 by Alice Springs artist
Al Strangeways for her portrait Rolf’s
Paper of Professor Rolf Gerritsen from Charles Darwin University.
