Get into the Vibe

Territory Families

Have you got some great ideas for youth activities during this year’s June/July school holiday break?

Now is the time to act with applications now open for the June/July 2017 Youth Vibe Holiday Grants Program.

The grants offer up to $500 for young Territorians and up to $2000 for local councils, community groups, businesses and organisations to plan, organise and deliver drug and alcohol free events or skills development opportunities for young people.

During the recent school holidays there was a terrific range of events and workshops on offer around the NT. These included a ‘Bubble Sports’ program in Tennant Creek, a Geekfest of ‘Nerd Culture’ in Palmerston, a Creative Peer to Peer Youth Project run by Headspace in Alice Springs and in Darwin a CemeNTstars Disability Drama Workshop hosted by Darwin Community Arts.

Out bush there was also a host of sporting and healthy lifestyle events, film nights and discos in remote communities run by regional councils and community organisations.

Territory Families Chief Executive Mr Ken Davies said the Youth Vibe Holiday Grants Program is part of the Northern Territory Government’s Youth Engagement Grants Program, administered by Territory Families’ Office of Youth Affairs (OYA).

“The aim of the program is to assist young Territorians to access a variety of youth-related events along with personal development and leadership programs and activities,” Mr Davies said.

“The program also supports families by offering young people opportunities during school holidays to learn new skills and encouraging them to be more resilient and positively engaged in their local community.”

There are three types of Youth Engagement Grants available:

  • Youth Vibe Holiday Grants for June/July and December/January periods
  • National Youth Week Grants
  • Quick Response Grants.
