ROAD CONDITIONS ACROSS THE NORTHERN TERRITORY – CENTRAL AUSTRALIA

Heavy monsoonal rains are impacting roads across the Northern Territory, with motorists urged to take care and know the road conditions.

 

The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics is working hard to provide regular updates through the Road Report NT website www.roadreport.nt.gov.au

 

Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and never attempt to cross flooded causeways.

 

The heavy downpours are making the roads slippery and can also cause severe pavement damage, including potholes.

 

Some of the significant roads currently impacted across the CENTRAL REGION include:

 

  • Abminga Access Road

Closed - Will be reinspected later this week;

 

  • Arltunga Road

Open - High Clearance 4WD drive and is currently having an opening grade which will be completed today;

 

  • Delmore Downs Property Access

Openweight restricted - maximum 4.5 tonne. Minor pavement repair and scour works to be undertaken;

 

  • Ghan Heritage Road

Closed - will be inspected this week to assess damage and to determine future

 closure status;

 

  • Kintore Road

Open - weight restricted - maximum 4.5 tonne from Tanami Road intersection through to Kintore.

Closed - between Kintore and the WA border.

 

  • Mount Denison Road

Closed - graders have been mobilised to grade damaged section;

 

  • Mulga Park Road

Open - weight restricted - maximum 4.5 tonne, and graders are currently undertaking opening grade;

 

  • Namatjira Kintore Link Road

Closed - will be inspected this week to determine future closure status;

 

  • Plenty Highway

Closed - between Harts Range and Qld Border. Conditions have not improved in this section with further rain yesterday.

Closed on Qld side also;

 

  • Sandover Highway

Openrestricted to high clearance 4WD between Plenty Highway and Ampilatwatja. This section will be inspected today;

 

  • Tanami Road

Open - weight restricted - maximum 4.5 tonne between Tilmouth Well and

Yuendumu turn-off.

Closed - between Yuendumu turn-off through to WA border. WA side of Tanami Road remains closed.

Contractors have been mobilised to undertake immediate repairs through the

closed section;

 

  • Tjukaruru Road

Open - restricted to high clearance 4WD only;

 

  • Willowra Road

Open - weight restricted - to maximum 4.5 tonne with and opening grade occurring this week.

 

Motorists are reminded to Check. Plan. Go before setting out on any road trip across the Territory.
