Heavy monsoonal rains are impacting roads across the Northern Territory, with motorists urged to take care and know the road conditions.
The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics is working hard to provide regular updates through the Road Report NT website www.roadreport.nt.gov.au
Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and never attempt to cross flooded causeways.
The heavy downpours are making the roads slippery and can also cause severe pavement damage, including potholes.
Some of the significant roads currently impacted across the BARKLY REGION include:
Damage to the Stuart Highway at the floodway 46 km south of Tennant Creek - emergency repairs have been carried out but water continues to flow over the road;
Significant potholes between Taylor and Barrow Creeks are currently under repair;
Repairs have been organised for seal damage to Patterson Street, Tennant Creek;
Potholes between Tennant Creek and Elliott are expected to be repaired later this week;
Repairs to sections of seal damage on the Barkly Highway between Avon Downs and the Queensland border are currently underway;
The Tablelands Highway is currently impassable with only local station vehicles permitted.
Much of the Barkly’s unsealed network is impassable because of flooding including:
Murray Downs Road;
Sandover Highway (Barkly Region) between Ampilatwatja and the Queensland border;
Woologarang Road from Carpentaria Robinson River intersection to the Queensland border;
Calvert Road;
Rankin Road;
Austral Downs Road;
Barkly Stock Route;
Kurundi Road – from the Stuart Highway to Canteen Creek intersection is subject to high-clearance 4wd maximum 4.5 tonne limit;
Mule Creek Road – emergency repair to a severe wash-out 1km from the Bing Bong Road intersection is being arranged.
Motorists are reminded to Check. Plan. Go before setting out on any road trip across the Territory.
Check – your vehicle is well maintained and ready for the journey ahead.
Plan – your trip and know the road conditions.
Go – and make sure you journey is a safe one.
