WORKS TO IMPROVE FLOOD IMMUNITY ON FOG BAY ROAD COMMENCE NEXT MONTH

Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics

The final project to achieve year round access to Dundee Beach / Bynoe Harbour is about to commence.

This project includes the construction of a 15 metre dual lane high level bridge at Rocky Creek crossing and realignment of 400 metres of new sealed pavement.

Rocky Creek crossing is on Fog Bay Road about 12 km from Cox Peninsula Road. Fog Bay Road forms part of the main road transport corridor to Dundee and is subject to flooding and long road closures during and following wet season rainfall events.

This is the final crossing along Fog Bay Road to achieve flood immunity. Once upgrades are complete, flood immunity and improved road safety and access will be achieved for residents and visitors along Fog Bay Road to the Dundee area.

During works, Fog Bay Road will remain accessible to traffic subject to weather conditions with traffic management measures present during construction works.

Variable message signs will be in place prior to the commencement of works to assist with road safety. Access across the existing creek crossing will be maintained throughout the construction phase with lane closures and speed restrictions in place.

Road users must adhere to traffic management controls for driver safety during construction. Traffic disruption on road approach and delays may be experienced.

This project will employ about 35 workers, including six who are Indigenous. This construction project builds on the commitment of the Northern Territory Government to provide employment opportunities and improves the capacity of Indigenous people to successfully share in the delivery of construction projects across the Northern Territory.

The $1.57 million contract was awarded to Allan King and Sons Constructions Pty Ltd and follows on from the $254 160 design contract completed by Territory Enterprise Jacobs Group (Australia) Pty Ltd earlier in the year. Both projects were fully funded by the Northern Territory Government and honour its commitment to promote Territory businesses.

Upgrades to the other waterways on Fog Bay Road already completed are:
