Australia Day at the Darwin Waterfront

Darwin Waterfront Corporation

The Darwin Waterfront has a fair dinkum line up of activities and entertainment this Australia Day.

Kick off your celebrations at 7 am at the Australia Day Fun Run, coordinated by the Australia Day Council. The fun run starts at the Darwin Convention Centre, with a 3km and 5km route options, taking participants into the city, along the esplanade and finishing back in the Darwin Waterfront parklands. Participants are encouraged to come along wearing their favourite Aussie dress-up and there are some prizes up for grabs for the best dressed costume. Cost of entry is via a gold coin donation on the day, which will be collected by volunteers prior to the run commencing.

In the parklands after the fun run, there will be plenty of free family fun including live music, come and try cricket with Cricket NT, a waterslide and juice bikes until 12 noon. There will also be free face painting and a sausage sizzle fundraiser for Lions Club of Darwin Nightcliff and free water from NT Beverages until 10 am.

The Wave Lagoon will open early at 8 am, and normal admission fees apply. Eighteen dollars provides a family of five (two adults and three children) all day entry until 6 pm. The Big Buoy inflatable water park will also be open from 9 am to 6 pm and is $15 per hourly session.

Stay for lunch or pack a picnic and enjoy the scenic views of the Recreation Lagoon, which will be fully patrolled by lifeguards from 7 am until 7 pm on Australia Day.

Local band, Coffin Fitz, will perform a free live concert from 4pm to 7pm, including Aussie favourites such as Long Way to the Top and Highway to Hell by ACDC, Flame Trees and Khe Sanh by Cold Chisel, Holy Grail by Hunters and Collectors and Intensive Care by Bondi Cigars.

The free concert will be coupled with a motorcycle show and shine coordinated by Badass Silverbacks and Black Dog Ride from 4 pm to 7 pm. Around 30 motorcycles will be on display next to Fiddler’s Green, including cruisers, tourers, sports bikes and adventure bikes from American (Harley, Victory, Indian), European (BMW, Triumph) and Japanese (Honda, Kawasaki) manufacturers. There will be a public vote for favourite male and female owned bikes. The Black Dog Ride is aimed at raising awareness for depression and suicide prevention. Black Dog Ride will have merchandise available for purchase and will also have a sausage sizzle and other activities in front of Pearl Galleria.
