The Parks and Wildlife Commission NT (PWCNT) crocodile management team have today responded to a croc sighting in Durack.

Tommy Nichols, Chief Wildlife Ranger, Parks and Wildlife Commission, said a croc had been sighted this morning, by a lady walking her dog at Durack.

“It’s not uncommon for crocodiles to be sighted during the wet season. We rely heavily on the public to report crocodile sightings, so we can monitor the area.

“A croc trap had been in place at Durack already, and we will this afternoon, add an additional trap. The team will also begin spotlighting this evening.

Mr Nichols said people should remember to BE CROCWISE.

“This means behaving responsibly in and around Territory waters at all times, heeding all safety signs and not putting your-self or others at risk of crocodile attack,” he said.

Estuarine crocodiles are common in the Top End and can inhabit any waterways including freshwater systems, billabongs and low areas subject to flooding.
