Four Northern Territory (NT) sports have received Officiating Scholarship Program grants totalling $21,500.

The Officiating Scholarship Program is an initiative for persons already holding National Officiating Accreditation Scheme (NOAS) or equivalent qualifications.

Funding recipients include -

  • Hockey NT and Athletics NT to support identified officials attending interstate development opportunities as well as high level assessment courses to be run in Darwin

  • Netball NT to support officials attending a training camp in Melbourne

  • Golf NT to support a representative to attend the 2017 Ladies Australian Open Golf Championships, which will assist with gaining level three official accreditation.

Director of the Northern Territory Institute of Sport (NTIS) Ian Ford said that the scholarships are aimed at increasing the number and quality of Territorians officiating at the highest levels in sport.

“The development of sports officials is crucial for the delivery of quality competition and we want to see some of our best involved in events at the highest level.

“As such, back in March of 2016 a new grant initiative known as the ‘Officiating Scholarship Program’ was launched.

“The 2016-17 Program, which opened on 1 September and closed on 30 October 2016, will support 20 officials across four sports with scholarship funding.

“When it comes to strengthening and developing sports, it’s important that we support and reward officials for the fantastic work they do,” said Mr Ford.

The next round of funding will open in February and close in April 2017.
