The Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory advise that due to the onset of the 2016/17 wet season, the plunge pool at Leliyn (Edith Falls) within Nitmiluk National Park has been closed in accordance with local procedures.
District Manager Gulf /Savannah Division of the Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory Andrew Davies said Parks and reserves in the Northern Territory may close at short notice due to seasonal conditions such as flooding.
“This is a timely reminder for anyone visiting our beautiful parks to be aware of the current conditions,” said Mr Davies.
The plunge pool will be closed for the duration of the wet season until Parks and Wildlife can undertake opening surveys.
Parks and Wildlife will conduct pre-opening crocodile surveys in accordance with crocodile management guidelines.
Leliyn (Edith Falls) within Nitmiluk National Park remains open for day visits, camping and walking.
The condition of roads and creek crossings associated with Giwining / Flora River Nature Park does not allow for public access and the Park remains closed.
The Jatbula Trail has also been closed due to recent rainfall causing significant rises at creek crossings.
Park visitors are encouraged to monitor the Commissions’ Facebook page and the Bureau of Meteorology’s website for rainfall and river data.
