Nightcliff Jetty Upgrade Works Continue

Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics

Structural upgrades to improve the safety of the iconic Nightcliff jetty are continuing.

The latest works are being carried out by local contractor, Akron Group, and includes replacement of the decking planks, and continuation of repairs to the footings and T-head of the jetty.

For this work to be carried out safely, the jetty has been temporarily closed to the public.

When the decking planks were recently removed, the contractor discovered excessive corrosion on the main jetty structure, which supports the decking and handrail.

Structural engineers have advised additional and unforseen repair works are now urgently required on the main structure, before the jetty can re-open to the public.

A report is being prepared on the extent of works needed, with the actual timing of these works to be known by Wednesday 2 November 2016.

In the interest of public safety, the jetty will remain closed to the public until these works are complete.
