Tomorrow night, over 250 students from Alice Springs and Barkly regions will perform in the 2016 Alice Beat Festival show ‘Stellar’.
Featuring students performing as singers, dancers and musicians, the festival showcases the many talents of primary, middle and senior school students in this large combined school production led by the NT Music School.
Principal of NT Music School Bill Grose said “This is a very exciting time in the performing arts calendar.”
"Stellar is a brilliant showcase with ticket sales strong, demonstrating once again the wide-spread community support for Territory students in this industry,” Mr Grose said.
“The Darwin Beat Festival included a sneak preview of the Alice Beat, with a duo from Centralian Senior College being a favourite item each night, so I’m really excited for the Alice Springs community to see the performance as it was certainly a highlight for me.
“The students, teachers, schools and families are really feeling the buzz of this year’s show and I congratulate them on their hard work in planning, rehearsing and now performing Stellar.”
This year marks the fifth annual Alice Beat with students from urban, remote and very remote schools participating in the festival. The Alice Beat is the third festival in the annual Beat calendar and follows the successful Darwin and Katherine Beat festivals.
The show will feature a 200-voice choir, a 10-piece house band, excellent dancers and feature items by students from Centralian Middle School and Centralian Senior College.
Runners up for 2016 Battle of the School Band’s Best Original Song, Centralian Senior College band Juice, is also performing in the show.
Jade Thorogood, Centralian Senior College student is very excited to perform as part of a duo in this year’s show and said “the production is really amazing every year”.
“These performances give me an opportunity to grow and develop in terms of how I present my art,” Miss Thorogood said.
“It’s also a great opportunity to see other artists and students from around Central Australia, especially to see all the kids from remote areas get up on stage and sing and do really well.”
The Alice Beat will be held at 7pm on Thursday 27 October at the Araluen Arts Centre. Tickets can be purchased from the Araluen Arts Centre box office.
