More than 150 event planners from around Australia will meet face-to-face with Northern Territory tourism businesses and operators this week at Conventions Walkabout 16.
The annual roadshow, delivered by the NT Convention Bureau through Tourism NT, is designed to attract more business events and major conferences to the NT.
Conventions Walkabout 16 will be held in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne from 24 October – 27 October.
“The business events industry is worth an estimated $70 million a year to the NT economy so events like this are crucial to ensure we inspire business events planners to think unconventionally and choose the Northern Territory as the site for their next business event or conference,” said Department of Tourism and Culture CEO Alastair Shields.
“Conventions Walkabout will raise the profile of the Northern Territory as a destination with the capacity and capability to conduct business events and provide an important platform for NT business event operators to connect with event planners in a business to business environment.
“Feedback from operators who have previously attended has been extremely positive with many collaborating to secure new business as a result of participation.
“This year we have 18 operators attending and it’s great to see a number of new faces keen to contribute to the events and conference market.
“The NT Convention Bureau is working hard to ensure we remain one of Australia’s best business event locations, offering unique experiences in Darwin, Alice Springs and Uluru.”
The Conventions Walkabout roadshow is a key marketing initiative of Tourism NT to drive new business events to the Northern Territory and for existing clients to connect with suppliers who may be able to assist with their planning requirements.
The NT exhibitors at Conventions Walkabout 16 include the three NT Convention Centres in Darwin, Alice Springs and Uluru, Alice Event Management and Consultancy, SEIT Outback Australia, Voyages Ayers Rock Resort, Crocosaurus Cove, Darwin Harbour Cruises, Fusion Exhibition & Hire Services, Mantra hotels, Novotel and Mercure Darwin Airport Resort, Nautilus Aviation, Oaks Elan Darwin, SKYCITY Darwin, TFE Hotels, Tourism Top End, Wharf One and Hilton and DoubleTree hotels (Alice Springs and Darwin) and AAT Kings.
This initiative is part of the Government’s plan to drive the development of North Australia and build a $2.2 billion visitor economy by 2020.
