Darwin Port, the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority and the Regional Harbourmaster have today continued to monitor the wreck site where a recreational vessel sank yesterday in the Darwin Harbour area known as the Small Boat Anchorage.
A buoy has been placed on the wreck to mark its location and a Notice to Mariners was published yesterday by the Regional Harbourmaster to alert harbour users of the navigation danger represented by the wreck. The Australian Hydrographic Office will replicate that warning to national and international shipping.
Only small blobs of diesel have been visible coming to the surface from the wreck today.
The NT EPA have directed the vessel owners to remove all oils from the wreck as soon as practicable and by no later than 28 October.
Darwin Port have removed the absorbent booms from the site as the risk of further pollution has been resolved and has been in contact with the owner about the recovery and removal of their vessel from the water by 2 November.
No reports of wildlife being impacted have been received.
