The NT Government is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to lease land near Ti Tree for the establishment of a horticultural enterprise.

The Territory is providing an opportunity to increase horticulture activities in the Ti Tree region and provide economic development through the leasing of this land for agricultural development.

The Department of Primary Industry and Resources Director of Market and Enterprise Development Scott Wauchope said the proposed piece of land at Ti Tree was strategically located between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek and was previously used for research into vegetable and fruit growing.

“The 2003 Anmatjere Regional Development Plan, identified expansion of the horticultural industry as one of the potential economic drivers for Ti Tree region,” he said.

“Following this, the Ti Tree Research Farm was established to support the emerging horticultural industry and although the farm is not currently undertaking any research, previous crops that have been grown and produced at the farm include grapes, asparagus, melons, cucurbits, citrus, stone fruit, mangoes, cut flowers and onions.

“We are pleased to be able to offer this suitable parcel of land to lease in the Ti Tree locality, 10 kilometres south of the Ti Tree township for horticultural development."

The NT Government is committed to providing opportunities to help increase jobs, economic development and supporting industry.

This EOI is seeking proposals from parties interested in leasing the land and undertaking development that will:

• Grow the existing horticultural industry in the region;
• Provide the necessary improvements to support the use and development of the land for irrigated horticultural purposes;
• Respond adequately to the opportunities and constraints of the Land;
• Provide opportunities for local industry; and
• Demonstrate sustainable use of the land through an effective business model.

Proponents are expected to put forward innovative, market tested proposals that respond to these objectives.

The 9.4 hectare property features: power, water, sewer and telecommunications in situ, underground mains with a licensed annual water allocation of 76 ML from a 5.3 L/s bore, existing grape trellis, windbreak trees and infrastructure.
