Nominations for the 14th annual Northern Territory Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards are now open.
The awards are an opportunity to recognise the efforts of Territory nurses and midwives.
Acting Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer Heather Keighley said, anybody can enter a nomination.
“So, if you have had a nurse or midwife who has provided you with outstanding patient care, why not consider nominating them for an award?” Ms Keighley said.
“These awards are an invaluable opportunity to say thank you to nurses and midwives for all they do, and it’s extremely important that we do what we can to support, encourage and grow our nursing and midwifery workforce."
This year there are 14 award categories across a range of nursing and midwifery specialist areas. This includes two new awards. They are the Team Award for Excellence in Nursing/Midwifery and the other new award is the Client Appreciation Award for Excellence in Nursing/Midwifery, which is targeted at health consumers to allow them to acknowledge a nurse or midwife they know.
The award recipient for the Lifetime Achievement category will receive $2000. Recipients for all other awards receive $500 and may be selected as Territory Nurse/Midwife of the Year, which carries a prize of $2000.
“I have had the privilege to work alongside many inspirational nurses and midwives during my career and have been witness to the most amazing stories – where nurses and midwives have gone so far beyond what’s required of them to do their very best for their clients,” Ms Keighley said.
“We want to hear more of these stories so we can recognise and reward them for their efforts.”
“I’m excited by the prospect of hearing what I’m sure will be many more new and wonderful stories about the achievements in Territory nursing and midwifery as part of the 2017 awards.”
Nominations close on 3 March 2017, with the award recipients announced at the gala dinner, on 13 May 2017.
Ms Keighley said for the first time, you can submit your nomination online this year. The Nominations Website can be found at www.nmea.nt.gov.au.
